Josi Umuhoza joins us from LaGrange, IL, but originally hails from Rwanda. She graduated from Webster University with a concentration in International Studies. She is serving at OPening Word in Long Island, NY this year as an ESL teacher. When asked why she chose Dominican Volunteers USA, she said:

“I applied to Dominican Volunteers USA because of the way the organization works with less privileged people by helping them. I also like working in an environment where God is the center of everything, Dominican Volunteers is where I feel I will be able to accomplish my Godly Mission and strengthen my faith. I grew up in a poor area; I have experienced poverty and injustice firsthand. Lots of innocent people died during the 1994 Rwandan genocide against the Tutsis, as a young woman from one of the poorest countries in the world, It is my responsibility to fight against violence and also help those who are in need.”
